๐Ÿ’ง My Water Journey

Follow your water from nature all the way to your home!

STOP 1
Where Water Lives

๐Ÿ‘† Tap to explore!

๐ŸŒ Did you know? About 71% of Earth is covered in water! It lives in oceans, lakes, rivers, glaciers, and underground. But most of it is salty ocean water โ€” only about 3% is fresh water we could drink.
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Ask your scouts:

Where can you find a lot of water? Can you name 3 different places? Could you drink water right from the ocean or a lake? Why or why not?

โ˜๏ธ
STOP 2
The Water Cycle

๐Ÿ‘† Tap to explore!

โ™ป๏ธ Water is a recycler! The sun heats water โ†’ it turns into vapor and floats up (evaporation) โ†’ forms clouds (condensation) โ†’ falls as rain or snow (precipitation) โ†’ flows into rivers and lakes โ†’ and the cycle begins again!
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Ask your scouts:

How does the water supply get "refilled"? Where does rain come from? Has anyone seen fog or dew in the morning โ€” what is that?

๐Ÿญ
STOP 3
Water Treatment Plant

๐Ÿ‘† Tap to explore!

๐Ÿงช Cleaning your water! Water from lakes and rivers goes to a treatment plant. Workers there: 1) filter out dirt and debris, 2) add chemicals to kill germs, 3) test it over and over to make sure it's safe. It's like a giant water cleaning machine!
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Ask your scouts:

Why can't we just drink water straight from a river? What kinds of things might be in untreated water? How do you think the plant gets the dirt out?

๐Ÿ—ผ
STOP 4
Water Tower & Pipes

๐Ÿ‘† Tap to explore!

๐Ÿ”ง Underground highways! Clean water is pumped into a big water tower (that's the tall tank you might see in your town). Then gravity pulls it through underground pipes โ€” sometimes miles long โ€” until it reaches your neighborhood!
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Ask your scouts:

Have you ever seen a water tower? Why do you think it needs to be so tall? What happens to water pressure if the tower is higher up?

๐Ÿ
STOP 5 โ€” HOME!
Your Faucet! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ‘† Tap to complete the journey!

๐Ÿšฟ It made it! The pipe comes right into your house and connects to every sink, shower, bathtub, and toilet. When you turn the handle, water pressure pushes the water out. It traveled a really long way to get to you!
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Ask your scouts:

How many places in your home use water? What would your day be like without running water? What can you do to not waste it?

๐ŸŽจ Now Make Your Poster!

You've followed the whole journey โ€” now draw it! Your poster should show:
